ODYSSEY SHOWS THE WAY- UK Inland Championship 2015 Report

Odyssey, number 400, the prototype of the newly adopted ‘Ultra’ design of National 18, ably sailed by Joe & Tom Mclaughlin won On-the-Water Cup at the well attended UK Inland Championship at Tamesis Club on 26th September by a clear margin … with three bullets. The win, in very light airs, put paid to any questions on whether the fairly flat aft section Ultras could perform well in these light conditions.   The Goose Drank Wine, 369, an ‘Ultimate’ design, sailed by Jeremy & Max Vines was second On-the-Water. Another ‘Ultimate’ Zephyr, 374, sailed by Ian Burnett and in turn

National 18 Championships 2015 – Report

By Claire Bateman After a week of  National 18 racing in varying conditions with wind from 5 to 25 knots and with eleven of the new Phil Morrison Ultra Design boats sailing, some having been delivered only the previous week, it was abundantly clear from their performance and the smiles on the faces they were a hit. See our photos here. Claire Bateman reports. It is true that one or two of them had teething troubles and it is equally true that one or two of the helms had difficulty in coming to terms with the new hull. Indeed so

National 18 Championships 2015

The Royal Cork Yacht Club are hosting this year’s championships. Besides the Proctor and Classic boats, there are 11 of the brand new Morrison designed 18’s build by White Formula in Brightlingsea. These boats are proving to be lighter faster and sleeker than their predecessors giving exacting and close racing. The event comprises ten races with a practice race last Sunday.  The wind to date has been very varied, with no racing on Monday because of 35 knot gusts. So over the next two days, Peter Crowley, Principal Race Officer ran three races back to back over a windward leeward

Great Coverage from www.sailweb.co.uk

Phil Morrison Designed National 18 is Something Special The first of the new Phil Morrison designed National 18s has been undergoing sailing trials. As well as impressing with her sailing performance the new National 18 also passed her EU RCD stability tests with flying colours. From the moment she hit the water for her inaugural sail at Brightlingsea it was clear that the boat was something special. British Olympian Rob White, whose company White Formula builds the boats, was among the first to helm her and couldn’t keep the grin off his face. “She’s seriously slippery,” said Rob immediately after

RYA Susuki Dinghy Show Alexandra Palace, 28 Feb/1 March 2015

The Class and its members have many heirlooms; one is a brochure that depicts a bikini clad beauty relaxing on the foredeck of a Proctor 18 at a dinghy show. We think it was in the early 1970s. Now times have changed….. So after 40 years or so absence the N18 is back again this year – and with a big and colourful splash. During the weekend over 9500 people visited Ally Pally to see a vast array of dinghies – and a few sports boats. However there was only one genuine three person dinghy – and that was
